Survivor
POSTED AT 03:56 AM in Reso-anything

Responding to Charmaine's call for greater member participation in this tabulas page, i shall thereby....erm say a few things. Who would i proceed to eat first if i were stuck on a barren island with OOPS in the middle of the ocean(my batch). Ok this may sound like a tricky question, but in essence i think the order of consumption can be drafted out pretty easily actually. 1. Wailun: As mankind's largest competitor for food, he is the biggest threat on the island. He must go first, to ensure i have the rest later on. I don't think we need a musical director at the moment anyway. 2. Charmaine: Being almost sure that she will start to scream incessantly from me eating wailun, i have to eat Charmaine next to stop her and save the island from prolonged the high-pitched madness, and perhaps give the rest of us some peaceful nights. 3. Amanda: As Charmaine's best friend, i think Amanda will be suffering immense depression from Charm's unfortunate absence. As a multi-tasker, Amanda is probably feeling depressed AND suicidal too. Therefore, eating Amanda next is a logical choice. Everyone's happy. 4. Cheryl: After all that meat, i need my greens. As someone who does not eat vegetables, Cheryl is the next best alternative. As a fervent vege-lover, eating her might provide me the required nutrients. (eating ur mother....sounds a bit Freudian) 5. Jeremy: By this moment, Jeremy is probably 'very stressed', and he starts to eat himself while jumping around singing Tao Ze songs. I simply join him. So there you have it. Wasn't so hard eh? (i think OOPs is going to disown me now. Well, it was coming anyway) Well. Here's a fun-filled exercise for the rest of resonance to try out then! Who would u eat in ur batch and why?

Derek Foo Caught Eating Veggies!!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Self-proclaimed veggie-hater and carnivore Derek Foo Chuan Wang was caught eating a whole plate of raw vegetables last Friday. Following a tip-off, our reporters and camera crew caught Mr Foo in the act at Sizzler at approximately 8pm.

Mr Foo, a member of the a cappella group OOPs, has always expressed his disdain for anything remotely resembling vegetables, canned peaches, mangoes, and egg yolks. His long list of Must Not Eat Foods is legendary in a cappella circles. It was thus a surprise to find him eagerly eating a full plate from Sizzler's salad bar.

When asked why he was consuming the very foods he claimed to hate, Mr Foo, after much evasion and exasperated sighs, mumbled to this reporter that he had challenged fellow OOPs member and well-known veggie-lover Cheryl Ong to make him a salad of her choice. This was to pacify the other members of OOPs, who had made fun of him for not eating vegetables. Miss Ong, not one to back down from a challenge, proceeded to pile a plate with healthy vegetables, and topped it off with a healthy dressing of extra virgin olive oil.

Health experts are lauding Mr Foo's move towards a healthier lifestyle, and hope that this newfound veggie-eating trend would continue. We consulted nutritionist Bao Peixian to ascertain the nutritional values of the vegetables found on Mr Foo's plate.

Salad Ingredients(clockwise from top left):

Onion: Rich in calcium, phosphorus and potassium, onions are known to reduce cholesterol levels. They also help in expelling gas.

Turnip: Rich in beta-carotene and Vit K, turnips are also strongly anti-inflammatory.

Asparagus: A good source of Iron, Magnesium and Zinc, and a very good source of Dietary Fibre, Protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Folate, Phosphorus, Potassium, Copper, Manganese and Selenium.

Capsicum: Rich in vitamin C and provitamin A. In addition, they are a good source of most B vitamins, and vitamin B6 in particular.

*Broccoli: Contains the phytonutrients sulforaphane and the indoles, which have significant anti-cancer effects.

Iceberg Lettuce: Lettuce in general provides small amounts of dietary fiber, some carbohydrates, a little protein and a trace of fat. Its most important nutrients are vitamin A and potassium. However, iceberg lettuce does not have the vitamin C, calcium, iron and copper present in other varieties.

*Beetroot: has no fat, very few calories and is a great source of fibre. Beetroot has for many years been used as a treatment for cancer in Europe. Specific anti-carcinogens are bound to the red colouring matter which supposedly helps fight against cancer and beetroot also increases the uptake of oxygen by as much as 400 percent.

*Celery: A good source of Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Pantothenic Acid, Calcium, Magnesium and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Folate, Potassium and Manganese. Good vegetable to detoxify with.

Tomatoes: Rich in antioxidants --carotenoids, ascorbic acid, phenolic compounds, and alpha-tocopherol.

Canned peaches: Good source of beta carotene, Vit C and fibre. However, the high sugar content may be nullify the health benefits. Eat only in small amounts.

Raisins: Low in Saturated Fat, Cholesterol and Sodium. A good source of natural sugars and fibre.

**Alfalfa: Part of the sprout family, alfalfa is one of the most complete and rich of all foods. In addition to its high content of vitamins and minerals, it is also high in proteins. Furthermore, it also contains every essential amino acid. Its detoxification surpasses most of other food tested. (so this is really good stuff!)

Dou Miao: Also known as pea sprouts, they are rich in protein and are a good source of energy.

** Highly recommended

Miss Bao hopes that Mr Foo will realise that he has to add some vegetables to his diet. "If not for anything else, eating vegetables would prevent a lot of future health problems. Diseases like cancer, bowel disease...all these can be prevented if he just adds 2 servings of vegetables to his diet each day."

Mr Foo seemed unconvinced, however, declaring that he had eaten enough vegetables to last him for the rest of the year at least. He later treated himself to a huge serving of chocolate ice-cream.

The Resonance Times will continue to bring you exclusive updates on Mr Foo's eating habits.
